AR accompany design

 Zhimo Li

Research

In the beginning, my goal was to make people not feel particularly lonely and enjoy the fun of eating. The reason is that I often see people on the Internet who put their favorite cartoon characters on the opposite side of the dinner table through photoshop and other software. As far as I know, Haidilao, the largest chain hotpot restaurant in China, also has a similar service. When you eat hot pot alone, the clerk will place a teddy bear in the seat front of you to accompany you.

AR Research

After a series of investigations and a comparison between practical and popular aspects, I believe that the mobile platform will be the main target of my AR products

Problem statement

painpoints.png

Their are several questions, or painpoints we need to solve to fullfill the user's requirement.

The first thing is that they are wondering to have face to face interactions and communications with parents or children. The defination of interpersonal socializing is 'two or more people interact in one space'. But the phone calls or a face time is on the screen, so users still feel that the person they miss is not around.

Secondly, another pain point is that they can't communicate anytime and anywhere. For example, one of our user groups is international student. They usually studying in a different time zones with their families, and do not have a lot of overlapping free time to communicate and interact with each other.

Questionaire

In order to obtain the data needed for the analysis, I designed a questionnaire related to AR and companionship questions, mainly collecting the answers of college students and parents, which are my target users. These 5 pie charts represent 5 questions and the data collected from my questionnaire.

Interview

Except the questionaire, I interviewed some college students and some college student parents to analyze users and their pain points. On the left is a short summary of the interview.

User Persona

Based on the result of our questionaire and interview, I created 3 personas for my target user.

Competitive Analysis

product research.png

I have investigated a variety of companion products and AR products that already exist in the market, and summarized their features and functions.

'Why we need to create such a product to fullfill users' requirement? What is the strength of your product?' The answers to these questions are what I want to come up with in my analysis.

Position Matrix

Position matrix is also a powerful tool to analyze competitive products.

In the first matrix, I analyzed the social degree (interaction between the user and other users) and popularity of the product. While in the second matrix, I mainly analyzed the interaction between users and the AR, and the  integration of the AR with the surrounding environment.

User Journey Map

I sorted out the user journey map based on the existing information, which summarized the user's emotional response in different scenes and the companionship problems that needed to be solved. The goal of AR products has also expanded from the beginning of a single meal scene to how to solve the user's problems in various special scenes such as festivals.

Design concept

Design a AR product that AR accompanies users to meet users' companionship needs and reduce users' loneliness.
